April Wynne, a Tampa, Fla.-based nail technician of 13 years, created this cute and simple manicure and it became an instant summer hit. The design is extremely flexible — any combination of colors (as well as mediums) can be use used to accommodate different seasons.

1. Perform a dry manicure on your client for better gel-polish adhesion. Then brush on a thin coat of gel-polish base coat and cure.

2. Paint the base color — only one coat is necessary — and cure. Wynne recommends a  transparent soft pink typically used for French manicures.

3. On six nails (all except the accent fingers and thumbs on each hand) paint the French tip in white using a French brush to make a perfect smile line. Paint two thin coats, curing after each coat. Use a sky-blue gel-polish to paint the French tip on the accent finger and thumb. Paint two thin coats, curing after each coat.

4. Pour a small amount of both gel colors in a small plastic lid or on aluminum foil, making sure the two colors don’t run together. Take a dotter tool and dot the polka dots on the French. Put white dots on the blue tips and blue dots on the white tips, curing after.

5. Paint on the gel top coat and cure again. Remove the tacky layer with alcohol and hydrate the cuticles.
