The 2015 Nail Tech Event of the Smokies offered three days of education and shopping to nearly 500 enthusiastic nail techs. The event, held July 11-13 at the Gatlinburg Tennessee Convention Center, kicked off with hands-on training at eight new Saturday workshops, some classes selling out months in advance. The nail show on Sunday offered shopping with 37 nail companies, plus 10 complimentary standing-room-only classes. “Some vendors reported selling completely out of everything before noon, while several others sold out of various products throughout the show and were taking sales orders,” says event coordinator Jill Wright. To complete the three-day educational extravaganza, 16 companies held 28 different Monday workshops.

After preparing entrants at a beginner’s competition class, retired top competitor Amy Becker held two beginner nail competitions: Salon Success and 3-D Nail Art (3-D entries were prepared in advance). Becky Wroblewski took first place in the Salon Success category, with Rhonda Shelton coming in second and Tracy Cole coming in third. Tracy Vinson took the top spot in the 3-D Nail Art competition, with Kimberly Harr in second place and Jennifer Wirth in third.

More than 50 door prizes were awarded during the event. Grand-prize winner LePorsche Cannon won $1,500 worth of nail products from A.I.I. Beauty and their Tennessee distributor AML Distribution.
