After losing her son’s godmother to breast cancer in June, Kamisha Winfield, owner of The Polished Stone Mobile Spa in Augusta, Ga., decided to make a difference. She came up with Pedi-for-a-Cure. In addition to being a pedicure that raises awareness of the disease, 10% of the $25 year-round service is donated to charity.

“I kept thinking about how I could contribute,” says Winfield. “I want to show people how something as simple as a pedicure can help find a cure.”

What’s involved? Winfield’s Pedi-for-a-Cure, also referred to as “pink pedi,” consists of an invigorating foot soak, cuticle care, exfoliation, a leg and foot massage, polish application, and breast cancer-themed nail art. All products Winfield uses for the service are pink, although clients can opt for a different color polish.

A complimentary face mask and relaxing music are also offered in addition to information regarding the disease and how people can monitor their own health.

Do it yourself. This type of service is something any nail tech can easily add to their menu, says Winfield. Try offering it during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, or leave it on the menu year-round like The Polished Stone Mobile Spa.

“Perform the service you love and just add pink,” says Winfield, who suggests offering manicures called “Man-I-Cares for a Cure” or acrylic enhancements titled “Over-Lay Cancer.”

“Anyone can do something; anyone can make a difference!”
