Congratulations to the Class of ’06. A group of 17 enthusiastic pedicurists has achieved the first-ever Bachelor of Science (BS) in Podology at Commonwealth University of Health Sciences in St. Kitts, West Indies. Students from the United States and Canada who completed levels one through four of education offered at the North American School of Pedicuring (NASP) gathered on the Caribbean island in January of this year to participate in a five-day residency to obtain the designation. The NASP, founded by Katharin von Gavel in 2004, offers a five-level pedicuring program that can be completed on a part-time basis in one to two years.
Level 1– Advanced Pedicuring: New European techniques, correct use of new sterilizable implements, and nail and skin disorders.

Level 5 – Case Studies and Residency: Five-day, hands-on component with doctors and presentation of case studies. Upon completing level one, the pedicurist can apply for the Certified Master Pedicurist (CMP) designation. Levels two through five must then be completed to receive the B.S. in Podology.
