Summer has officially started for us here in Virginia. Schools are out and, as many others, I made the list for "worst end-of-the-year moms" :)

Between tardies, gluing junk to homework, and reading baby books to save time, I've got do it all -- all while the salon is flooded with clients, and all of my ladies at work are going through the exact same thing. We can't balance our schedules.

One evening I had two people working with me out of eight. Why must all of the graduation celebrations and summer parties fall at the exact same time? Really?!

This is our lives: motherhood and working. And I do understand, and I don't give my employees a hard time, because I know what it's like myself. So that's what going within the salon.

As for me, I went to Florida for Premiere Orlando. I was so glad I went because I met all my peeps at NAILS Magazine (that's me with NAILS graphic designer Kim Pham in the picture), CND, OPI, and many others -- which was a real treat. I love to stay connected, and I love exchanging ideas and encouragement. That's what keeps me going in this industry.

If you haven't been to a tradeshow, you really need to make it a priority. I've learned so much from shows, especially business-building classes. One of the classes I took was "Supercharge Your Front Desk" by Mikal. Afterward, I immediately hired a full-time front desk manager and started looking for a POS system that would work better for us.

My students from my nail school are about to graduate. I've also hired a new instructor, and she is a Tammy Taylor educator so many classes are in the works. I can't tell you how busy but exciting I am, and the best part is: no more school! Enjoy your summer everyone.
