Auf Wiedersehen, Good night, Peace Out!
Sadly, Maggie’s need for balance in her life means saying goodbye to her Maggie Rants blog.

I happen to be a pretty big James Bond geek. Not big enough to have read the books, not big enough to tell you which gadgets go with which car in which movie, but big enough to know the world got cheated out of an additional six pictures starring George Lazenby because his agent was an idiot.
So, while my Twi-Mom clients have been counting down the past year to “Breaking Dawn Part 2,” I have been just as eagerly counting down the same year to the premier of Bond 23 — “Skyfall.”
You can bet I ran out and got the OPI Skyfall polish collection! In both traditional polish and GelColor. (The Spy Who Loved Me is one of my all-time favorite reds, and I’m a little bummed that The Living Daylights isn’t available in gel too.)
But I have to admit that the "Skyfall Manicure" as pictured in the advertisements, on the displays, and, apparently even in the movie (No, I have not been to see it yet. This weekend … we go this weekend.) and — ahem — on the cover of a recent issue of Nails Magazine just doesn’t photograph well.
As soon as I saw the advertisement for the collection, I knew something was up. The model/Bond girl has her hand positioned in such a way that the underside of her thumb nail is very conspicuously displayed, despite it appearing that the underside of her thumbnail is less than photographable. I immediately wondered if maybe there was polish on the underside of the manicure that was losing something in translation.
Sure enough, the "how to get this look" instructions claim that the underside of the nails are painted with "Golden Eye" (an awesome gold glitter.)
Man, I bet this manicure looks amazing in real life.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t photograph well. And it kinda just looks like an unpolished, yellowish natural nail on the underside.
So disappointing. Maybe it looks better on the big screen.
