A study of 176 carpal tunnel patients (not necessarily nail techs) who either wore splints or received surgery found surgery to be the more effective option, reports the Los Angeles Times. The surgery--which involves cutting the ligament over the wrist’s carpal tunnel to relieve pressure-- was found to allieviate wrist pain, numbness, and tingling in 90% of patients versus a 37% improvement rate among splint wearers. An article in the Journal of Back and Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation indicates that carpal tunnel sufferers may respond to the wearing of magnets. Researchers found that pain was significantly reduced in 57% of patients who wore a magnetic wrist wrap.
