Nails Are My Super Power: The Top 3 and the Bottom 3

Challenge 3, sponsored by LeChat, asked the Top 10 to show us their super power (besides nails) by using at least three art techniques with LeChat products. NTNA second-runner up for Season 5 and LeChat ambassador Hemi Park was this week’s guest judge.

In alphabetical order, the Top 3 are:

Allison: The judges were creeped out by your work — in a good way! Once again, your video was scary good! The yarn technique was especially eye-catching. The judges just wish you had made better use of your tips rather than just as a platform for the rest of your work.

Kelsey: Your work this week was a huge risk. The judges were divided on your tip manipulation. They also felt the details on the doll faces could be more refined. Overall though, this design was ambitious and technically well-executed. Your video and your concept were dazzling! We couldn’t get enough.

Stella: You used your super power to give us a clean, precise, and technically advanced work of art that demonstrates your genius. Consider our minds blown!

The following artists can breathe again. They are in the middle of this week’s pack and are safe. Congratulations to:

April: You made the judges feel right at home this week. We are now hungry (and thirsty) for some Southern hospitality! Your biscuits, tea, and quilt warmed our hearts. The pollen technique was sensational! Now, the judges invite you to take it up a notch by playing with scale or taking a less traditional approach to nail art.

Giselle: Your set this week was so fun! The judges agree your video was better, but could still use some improvements. Suggestions: Use time lapse only after a real-time technique is taught to transition to a new frame; make sure freeze frames are not blurry; try shooting each technique in clips and then merge. Overall, your night owl set was a hoot!

Helen: There was much to love about your set this week. The judges wonder if there was maybe too much. We all agree, your crystals were gorgeous, but they get lost in all the elements going on. Choose a path and stick with it so your work looks cleaner. When it comes to your video, all your salon-friendly pro tips are much appreciated. Be aware that your voice over sometimes outlasts the image in the frame.

Kadee: The judges think you are a super woman! The chaotic details of your piece are a treat for us, we couldn’t look away without fear of missing something. Consider playing with scale for even more impact. In your video, remember to take a breath — you deserve it. This was a feast for the eyes, great job!

Unfortunately, there always has to be a bottom group. The bottom 3, in alphabetical order, are:

Becca: The pattern color-blocking with Gelee was applauded — as are your incredible knitting talents! Your video this week was entertaining, told us a lot about you, and helped in seeing the detail on these nails. More precision in your artwork will only amp up your scores.

Ilona: The judges felt this set lacked your usual edge. Playing with scale will only help emphasize the art elements you incorporated this week. Your video was much improved and was bookended with fun elements like your group intro and dry ice. Still, we would love to learn even more about your techniques from your video.

Jessica: The judges know you for your creativity and unique imagination, which comes through in this design. Your mini Jess is sassy and cool and your critters are lovingly made. More precision in your art will only push you further into the competition. In your video, watch the volume of your music so we can hear you better, as we love what you have to say.
