“Guess Granny lied when she told me all they did back then was ‘work, work, work!’” says Elsbeth Schuetz, winner of this year’s Mural Contest with her Roaring Twenties-themed design. A Los Angeles-based nail artist and educator with a celebrity clientele, Schuetz explains why she chose that particular theme: “In the last few months I was invited to three Roaring Twenties parties. Plus, vintage and reproduction flapper dresses are seen on the red carpet and at many other events. We seem to simply love this ‘chic and sinful’ style.” To create the mural, Schuetz says she imagined being at a party like this and made a mental layout of the event. “Once I painted the first ‘guest’ it became easy to invite the next one,” she says. “I tried to achieve an old-fashioned tinted look with diluted paint.”
