Patrice McNeal, owner of Los Angeles-based WildSide Nailz, has a unique creative outlet she can turn to when petty frustrations get her down: cartoons. She does the writing and her daughter Jessica — a Japanese anime artist and writer — does the illustration to her specifi cations. “It’s the little irritations that I face with clients that motivate me to pen the cartoons,” says McNeal. “I aim to show the silliness of the irritations, while trying to evoke a smile in someone who may or may not understand from a personal perspective. Sometimes they’re based on real incidences, and sometimes I fabricate the whole scene.”
