Olympic gold medallist Florence Griffith Joyner kicked off her company’s $100,000 nail art contest at a fundraiser to benefit the Florence Griffith Joyner Youth Foundation. The consumer nail art company, called Flo Jo, invited three of L.A.’s finest emerging artists to turn their talents loose on the smallest of canvasses — the fingernail. Painter Matt Aston, sculptor Trevor Wilson, and jewelry designer Phil Roberts all accepted the challenge of creating 10 individual pieces of art that, when combined, presented a unified image. Julie Logan, West Coast editor of Glamour, served as one of the models, as did Joyner, who wore a running scene painted by Phil Roberts. The contest, which will award 10 $5,000 first- place prizes, is open to all (pro and non-pro alike) who submit a nail tip decorated entirely with Flo Jo products.
