OPI’s NEW Chrome Effects and Infinite Shine Glaze Toppers
After seasons of barely-there manicures and minimalist nail looks, chrome is officially back in the spotlight.
Behind the scenes at this month's cover shoot takes you to the sunny beach of California.

Who: Tom Bachik, VP, Anaheim, Calif.-based Young Nails
What: NAILS photo shoot, photographed by Don Diaz
Where: La Jolla, Calif.
When: Friday, January 3,2003
Why: to shoot the March cover of NAILS and our spring/summer polish preview
An amazing day. The staff at NAILS is constantly striving to raise the bar in all arenas. And our polish preview features each year (one in March, one in September) are no exception. This month, we took it one step further and went on location to shoot the new spring colors against a beautiful ocean setting. We took a big risk shooting models in bathing suits in January, but true to Southern California legend the weather was amazing (although the water was still quite frigid). We got some great shots and hope you enjoy the outcome.

An old face, a new place. We called on Tom to do the nails and toes for this month’s polish preview and cover shots. He was more than willing to oblige and brought his new boss to assist him. Tom used Young Nails’ Natural Curve tips and Crystal Clear powder and nail liquid to sculpt the nails. No stranger to photo shoots (in addition to doing many NAILS covers, Tom also does nails for music videos, magazine covers, and awards shows), he knew to sculpt the nails super thin. He even handed out this tip, “I am using a tip that is slightly smaller than the model’s natural nail in order to pull her sidewalls in.” He finished the nails with a coat of Finish, a gel top coat.
