Still, given the track records of each of our winners, we shouldn’t be surprised by their remarkable work. First-place winner Sue Tumblety of Sanzio Salon & Spa in Matawan, N.J., is a veteran nail artist and teacher who has published a nail art “how-to” book and has also worked painting miniatures for the Walt Disney Galleries.

Second-place winner Kazuko Tomiyama of Miwa Salon in Tokyo was the winner of NAILS’ 2003 Self-Portrait Contest. Her unique and creative designs have also been featured in nail magazines in her native country.
