Nourish Clients' Skin With Simple Ingredients

“If you can’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin.” That’s the motto of Mandi Newton, a nail tech who created a line of body care products called Kona Botanicals. A firm believer in using only fresh, natural ingredients, Newton teaches classes in botanical nourishment for the nails, skin, and hair. Here are some quick and easy food based blends you can use to perform her Ancient Soak, Scrub, and Rub Procedure on the feet.

Step 1. Prepare a foot soak: Make a pot of coffee (it must be caffeinated) and mix it with equal parts water that is hot, but touchable. (If inflammation is present in your client’s feet, use cooler water.) Soak for 10 minutes.

Step 2. To make a scrub, mix ½ cup brown sugar with water to make a mud.  Apply to the client’s feet and leave on for 10 minutes. The glycolic acid in the sugar will dissolve dead tissue and act as a mild anti-inflammatory. Rinse or soak for another 10 minutes to further hydrate and heal.

Step 3. Dry the feet, using the dry towel to remove the rest of the dead skin that’s been loosened.

Step 4. Massage the feet with sunflower oil, a thin readily absorbing oil that is high in vitamin E.

Step 5. Cover the feet in hot towels (use cool towels if feet are inflamed) until the towels cool and, finally, dry feet.
