Barbiecore is the summer’s biggest trend and during the premiere of Barbie the Movie on July 9th, celebrities did not disappoint, embracing the pink-themed aesthetic down to their nails.

From director/cast members Greta Gerwig, America Ferrera, Issa Rae, and Ariana Greenblatt to Dua Lipa who’s featured on the film’s soundtrack, with the help of their nail artists sported mood-boosting pink manis. See below for more information on their looks and how to recreate using the OPI x Barbie the Movie Collection (fun fact: the shades names were conceptualized with the film’s director and writer Greta Gerwig)!

Get the Look: Issa Rae

“Issa has been in the mood for pink! We wanted to have fun with the nail look for the Barbie premiere so we decided on using different pink shades. Using the signature color and embracing the playfulness of Barbie, I put a spin on the regular French mani, creating an abstract version.”

Step 1: Apply a coat of OPI GelColor Stay Classic Base Coat and cure in OPI LED Light for 30 seconds. For the nail lacquer version, use OPI Natural Nail Base Coat.

Step 1: Apply two coats of OPI GelColor in “Put it in Neutral.” For the nail lacquer version, use OPI Nail Lacquer in “Bon Voyage to Reality!” from the OPI x Barbie the Movie Collection.

Step 3: Use OPI GelColor in “Two Timing the Zones” and OPI GelColor in “I Quit My Day Job” to make abstract twists, a spin on the typical French tips. For the nail lacquer version, use OPI Nail Lacquer in “Hi Barbie!”, also from the OPI x Barbie the Movie Collection, and OPI Nail Lacquer in “I Quit My Day Job.”

Step 4: Lastly, apply OPI GelColor Stay Shiny Topcoat. For the nail lacquer version, use the OPI Topcoat.

Get the Look: Dua Lipa

“We wanted to create a stunning two-tone French manicure for Dua Lipa, capturing the essence of Barbie. Using OPI Nail Lacquer in ‘Hi Barbie!’ as the pink base and ‘Alpine Snow’ on the tips, we achieved a striking contrast. With Dua's elegant clear rhinestone dress, our goal was to bring the ultimate pop of Barbie pink to her look.”

Step 1: Start by prepping the nails.

Step 2: Apply one coat of OPI Natural Nail Base Coat.

Step 3: Once dry, apply one coat of OPI Nail Lacquer in “Hi Barbie!” to each nail, let dry, then apply second coat and allow to dry completely.

Step 4: Create a white French tip using OPI Nail Lacquer in “Alpine Snow” and a steady hand. Apply a second coat if more coverage is needed and allow it to dry completely.

Step 5: Seal the look by applying OPI Top Coat.

Get the Look: America Ferrera

“Since America chose a blush mauve outfit and accessories, she wanted a brighter shade of pink to match the color of her handbag. ‘Hi Barbie!’ was the perfect shade and added that fun vibrant pop of pink against her blush-colored outfit.”

Step 1: Start by prepping the nails using OPI Cuticle Stick to push back cuticles and get rid of any dead skin on the nails.

Step 2: Next, use OPI NAS 99 Nail Cleansing Solution and the Expert Touch Nail Wipes to cleanse nails and prepare for polish.

Step 3: Apply OPI Natural Nail Base Coat.

Step 4: Apply two coats of OPI Nail Lacquer in “Hi Barbie!”

Step 5: Seal in the look with OPI Top Coat.

Step 6: Lastly, use OPI ProSpa Nail & Cuticle Oil to hydrate skin around the cuticle area.

Get the Look: Greta Gerwig

“For Greta’s nail look we used OPI x Barbie the Movie Collection in the shade ‘Every Night is Girls Night’ for a girly sparkle. We also added pink and clear Swarovski crystals on top for a little extra Barbie bling! Greta wanted sparkly disco ball nails and these totally shine as bright as she does.”

Step 1: Start by prepping the nails.

Step 2: Apply one coat of OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener.

Step 3: Paint on two coats of OPI Nail Lacquer in “Every Night is Girls Night.”

Step 4: Apply one coat of  OPI Top Coat.

Step 5: Finish by applying pink and clear crystals to get a disco ball Barbie look.

Nail enthusiasts can embrace the current Barbiecore trend with four mood-boosting pinks in crème and metallic finishes, including a bold, saturated magenta hue. In addition to Barbie’s signature hot pink, the collection also includes three bright shades of lemon yellow, sky blue, and shimmery baby blue.
