Sheet Masks: A Simple Upsell

2 min to read

A nail tech at West Palm Beach, Fla.-based Chroma Salon and Spa, Rosa Vargas has discovered a tempting upsell for her pedicure clients: a refreshing facial sheet mask. “Sheet masks are fuss-free and suitable for clients with all skin types,” says Repêchage CEO and founder Lydia Sarfati. “The masks help refresh the look of makeup and make the skin appear dewy and nourished.”

Saturated with a range of skin-nourishing ingredients, single-use sheet masks can target the entire face or specific areas such as hands, feet, lips, and under-eyes. Most use a cotton sheet as the base, while others may use materials such as seaweed or hydrogel. The masks are left on the client’s face for an extended period of time — usually 10 to 30 minutes — to allow the skin to reap all the benefits.

West Palm Beach, Fla.-based nail tech Rosa Vargas finds facial masks are an easy add-on while clients are receiving other treatments.

Unlike cream masks, sheet masks can be applied to a client’s skin with easy, mess-free removal. Simply apply, wait the specified time, remove, and massage the excess serum into skin. No water is needed for the service, so the masks can be applied anywhere in the salon. They usually come in convenient, individually wrapped plastic packages.

Masks can be used as an upsell during any waiting time at the salon. In addition to pitching them to pedicure clients, Vargas offers masks to hair clients as they wait for their color to process, and to skin clients who can benefit from the masks’ soothing properties after certain skin and waxing treatments. Of course, they can be retailed as well.

“I pitch the treatment to my clients as an instant-lift mask that can go over makeup without a smudge,” Vargas says. “The masks make the skin appear brighter and more hydrated. They give the skin an instant glow that lasts all day.” She charges $18 for the mask as an add-on, or $25 without an accompanying service.
