Will Oregon Eliminate Its State Board?

Two task forces have been asked by Oregon Gov. Barbara Ryans to evaluate whether Oregon's’ State Board of Cosmetology can be eliminated, consolidated with another state agency, or run by a private organization, according to Trisha Albritton, office manager and rules coordinator for the state board.

As a result of a 1991 property tax cut, Gov. Ryans is seeking a 20% to 25% reduction in spending. All 200 state agencies are being reviewed.

One task force has recommended that the cosmetology board be consolidated into a centralized regulatory, appeals, and advocacy agency, while the other task force recommends it be eliminated.
