NAILS Rewards program offers special incentives for our subscribers

In the Land of the Rising Sun, nail care is rising in popularity. As manufacturers jockey for market share and brand loyalty, Japanese nailists bring a flair for nai design and a perfectionist streak that has the world watching.
Our staff was daunted yet excited by the caliber of the salons who entered our first annual Salon of the Year competition.

Why are nail fashion trends being set by retail companies and consumer beauty editors instead of professional manufacturers and nail technicians?


Since there is no certain way to know how many competitors are in each competition or whether they’re ranked competitors, we can’t award bonus points based on whether a competition is crowded with the top people.

Our slogan for NAILS Rewards is “Surpass Your Expectations.” That’s something we take to heart here at the magazine.

Besides providing nail professionals with a monthly magazine that is an informational and educational resource, our mission is to inspire you.



I was in beautiful Toronto for four days visiting salons and attending the Canadian Hairdresser magazine show. I learned that our salon neighbors to the north share a lot of the same joys and frustrations in their work as you do. Although still not as prominent, discount salons are redefining the nail industry there as well.

There are a couple of practices found in most discount salons that I think all nail salons could learn from.

As a "subscriber" to the Masters Program, you get a monthly tape, hosted by Winn Claybaugh and Kitty Victor and delivered by some of the professional salon industry's leaders.

If you aren't online yet chatting with other nail techs, you're missing a unique opportunity.

For the occasion of the City of Hope's Spirit of Life Award, honoring Jan Nordstrom Arnold and Jim Nordstrom of Creative Nail Design, everyone wore at least a hint of pink -- even the guys.

We try to understand why some salons do not comply with even simple board rules, whether the inspection process and fines keep salons honest, and whether salons and consumers have any recourse when they have a problem.

Do today's nail techs know what it takes to build a full book? If not, as a veteran you should lend a hand.
