In publishing we worry about a lot of things postal increases, the availability of paper, subscription renewal rates, and so on. These days especially publishers worry about how to how to provide readers more than just ink on a page. I spoke in this note several months back about our NAILS Rewards program, which offers special incentives for our subscribers, and I want to let you know what we’re doing to keep you not only interested in, but active with, NAILS. We want you to know that NAILS is not only a source of information, but also a source of inspiration, support, and camaraderie. We want you to belong to our club (no secret passwords needed)!

Here are a few things we’re doing to create a “club” atmosphere:

When we do our bimonthly What’s Hot features, we are holding a drawing for these high-demand products. Circling the appropriate reader service number on the postage-paid card in the issue and mailing it back enters you.

When we do our Spring/Summer and Fall Polish Previews, the first 30 readers who e-mail us at nailsmag@bobit.com will win one of the new fall polish collections.

We’ve also started a Sampling Program, where we provide our advertisers with the names of readers who would like product samples to try.

Our occasional reader focus groups have been so fruitful that we’ve decided to continue them in the form of a bi-monthly “lunch bunch.” About 8-10 nail techs and NAILS editors will meet every other month and gab about what’s going on in the nail industry. Sometimes we’ll invite special guests who can offer advice and insight on succeeding in the nail industry.

And finally. we’re out on the road every week. As you’ve seen in the past several months in our on the Road column, every member of the NAILS staff, from the editors to the salespeople to our production manager to our administrative assistant, regularly visits salons to truly get to know what your work environment is like what your challenges are, and even what your voice sounds like.
