Note from Robbie: Instead of hogging all the blog space, I’m handing off today’s post to ROB|B co-owner Dan Schilleci. Dan has been stationed in Iraq for the past 10 months, but is scheduled to return by September. Check out his blog post below, leave him some comments, and expect to hear more from him when he’s back stateside.

Greetings from Iraq
I’d like to personally thank all of you who are reading our blog and showing interest in ROB|B. As you can probably imagine, trying to put all the pieces together for the salon has been difficult for me, since I’ve been stationed in Iraq for a bulk of the time. It must seem pretty weird that the salon’s co-owner has been on a different continent, so I wanted to take this opportunity to give you a bit of history.

I completed Army ROTC at UCLA and was commissioned into the Army Reserves as an officer. Right around this time, Robbie and I were developing the concepts for the salon. We waited for me to get through six months of training and a deployment to Egypt, then began seriously getting to work on the nitty-gritty aspects of the salon. It was at this time we first began looking for a location (this process ended up taking almost a year and a half!).

But then, after a month being back home from Egypt, I was informed I was being deployed to Iraq. It was somewhat of a surprise, but then I guess we always knew it could be a possibility. We prepared for it. We assembled our team, starting with Nadine (salon M.O.M.), then branching out to our contractor, salon equipment provider, architect, and interior designer. Together we are all making ROB|B a reality. And, trust me, it’s so great to see this happen!

Right now it looks like I’ll be returning to Los Angeles around August or September. I’m very proud of all of my soldiers and it has been an honor to lead such brave individuals in combat. Keep sending questions through the blog, and I will see you all soon!

Regards,
Daniel Schilleci

Not Good at Saying No

Where to start...where to start...well, let's start with: Why start over? When I graduated from nail school I was immediately hired at a busy full-service salon, and I started working hard to build a clientele. I
