We’ve been building like crazy lately. It’s great to be making so much progress (finally!). We’re working with Rimi Security on both the security and audiovisual systems for the salon. A representative came out to walk us through some things. We’ll be putting security cameras throughout the salon, including overlooking the entrance and cash register. They’ll be recording onto hard drives that can be accessed via the Internet — pretty handy. Plus, theoretically, we could even use the cameras as webcams to show our salon to the online world, but that’ll take a while to get off the ground.

The audiovisual elements will be great. The rooftop patio will be equipped with a microphone and speakers for presentations. The second floor will have three TVs, and the first floor will have nine (including three large, 42-in. ones). The small TVs at each manicure table will be used for watching shows, but also for promotional OPI and other DVDs. There will also be WiFi throughout the whole place. (Have I gone crazy?)

Another piece of good news is we finally have the whole team — including the contractor, architect, furniture maker, designer, etc. — on the same page. We were having some miscommunication problems earlier, just trying to coordinate the details between so many different parties. Stuff kept falling through the cracks. But now, we’re meeting weekly at the salon site, and I think we’re all together with the plans. We’ve worked out a construction schedule and, as of now, we’re on schedule.

There has been another change to the building. It turns out we’re just going to have one large office on the second floor, instead of the original three. I’d mentioned earlier that, because of the rooftop patio, we need to add another staircase as an emergency exit and it would cause my and Nadine’s offices to shrink. Now, it looks like the best solution to fit the staircase is to just have one office for all three of us (Nadine, Dan, and me). This changes our furniture arrangement (a lot of it is supposed to be built-in), but luckily the office furniture hadn’t been built yet anyway.
