I don’t like the idea of the floating walls between each manicure station and the next. You said the stations make for a more private service, but are they going to be sound proof? Everyone is going to hear what other clients are talking about, and how will you handle it if you get a loud talker?

There’s no sound proofing on the first floor. The manicure stations are semi-private in the sense that you can slide the panel to physically block out your neighbor. There will also be music playing in the salon, which should wash out some of the noise. If a client really doesn’t want to hear anybody else, she can put on the headphones that we’re providing at each station.

I’m not intending for the downstairs environment to be pure silence. We’re not a spa, after all. I do want us to have some of that hustling-and-bustling nail salon feel.

If someone’s really loud, then it’s my job (and Nadine's and Dan’s) to politely ask the client to lower it a notch. But I think most people will be respectful.

The upstairs, however, will have a totally different feel. These private rooms will be sound-proofed and be more like a spa. So, for the client who wants that type of experience, we can accommodate her — just not on the first floor.
