Hi Tristan,

In my experience with mall locations (we looked into these types of properties before deciding on our standalone building in Studio City), you often have to have to use an architect who is affiliated with the mall. Malls tend to want a consistent look throughout, especially when it comes to store facades. They will usually provide you with guidelines as to what is and isn’t allowed.

I would first ask the broker if you have to work with a specific architect provided by the landlord. If the mall doesn’t require you to use a particular architect, your next step should be to research architects who specialize in malls and commercial spaces. In this case, I’d talk to other salon owners to find out who they used as an architect. Referrals are very important to establish an architect’s credibility, plus you have to see examples of their work in person

Regards,

Robbie
