In Unison: The Top 3 and the Bottom 3

Week5_top3

Challenge 5, sponsored by Bio Seaweed Gel, asked our Top 8 to show us what unity meant to them. They had to create their look using gel (no acrylic) sculpting, polish, gel-polish, and unconventional items on five nail tips. In addition, they had to make a video diary detailing their design.

This week’s guest judge was Hellen Luu of Bio Seaweed Gel. Permanent judges include CND’s Jan Arnold, NAILS NTNA season 2 winner Lavette Cephus, NAILS editor Erika Kotite, NAILS senior editor Beth Livesay, and the rest of the team at NAILS Magazine.

In alphabetical order, the top 3 are:

Celina: When we look at your piece, the meaning of the word “Unity” is very clear. All the judges agree that your grandpa would be so proud. You put in a lot of work this week telling your story, from the Buddha to the mandala, and it has not gone unnoticed.

Halley: Your design was absolutely delicious! The judges loved being invited to your table for a meal. Your use of unconventional items was particularly masterful, right down to every tiny detail. Even the background was fantastic and intricate.

Torie: The judges loved your magical story. The human form you created was especially beautiful. Overall, the judges felt this design was wildly original.

The following techs can breathe again. They are in the middle of this week’s pack and are safe. Congratulations to:

Sarah: Your design reminded us that the world is actually quite small and that we are all connected. The fact that your globe rotates is the perfect extra touch. The judges appreciate your artistic playfulness and professionalism.

Winnie: The judges could not agree with you more – all of the NTNA contestants have worked so hard and done an outstanding job! The gradient design and rotator were big hits with the judges. Every judge described your video as “fun.” Your nail art makes us happy!

Unfortunately, there always has to be a bottom group. The bottom 3, in alphabetical order, are:

Alecia: Your koi fish were delicate and beautifully created. Spelling out “unity” was a clever idea. Once again, the judges think your video is clear and shows your work well. Unfortunately, you used 10 nail tips instead of five, as specified in the challenge guidelines.

Lauren: The judges all learned so much from your video. You presented a vast amount of research through a rich and neat design. The varying skin tones at the base of the nails was a particular favorite element.

Victoria: Your video was a little off in the beginning, with the fabric store footage not as clear as the remainder of your video. Your color choices, however, were bright and vibrant. The translucent ribbons were fanciful and fun. Make sure to submit your final photo on a white background.
