We Know What Girls Want: When we told Elsbeth that we were shooting a teen cover to go with our cover story on teenagers, she conducted an informal poll of teenage girls in her neighborhood to see what they like to wear on their nails. Cherries seemed to be the big winner. (Oh, and bar codes, but we didn’t think that was quite as cute.) And wouldn’t you know it, those girls were right on the money for predicting one of the trends for spring/summer 2002. Cherries are everywhere-from the runway at designer Anna Molinari’s spring show to hip teen catalog Delia’s. The cute fruit (often seen in pairs) can be found on clothes, bags, jewelry-practically everywhere-so why not hands and toes?
Cherry Bomb: Elsbeth polished model Emily Scott’s natural nails with several coats of Creative’s Cream of White and topped it off with Orly’s Heavenly Blush. Elsbeth then painted small cherries on several of Emily’s fingernails using Da-Da polishes in Night Rider, Whipped Cream, and Go Go Green. Da-Da is a funky, trendy line of polish by Orly for the young and young-at-heart. She started by painting small red dots side by side. She added white for highlights and a darker color to create depth and then added the stems and leaves. Show your clients you know what’s hot and give them your own special cherry bomb on their toenails for the warm summer season.
