Instagram is changing its algorithm. Here's how to stay in the know.

We at NAILS are a huge fan of social media. Instagram in particular has been very good to us, as it is a very visual platform — perfect for posting pics of manis, polish, salon décor, and everything in between. Recently it was announced that Instagram will be slowly changing the way it shows photos. The new algorithm (similar to parent company Facebook), means Instagram will now show you the images it thinks you want to see, instead of displaying the latest posts from your friends.
Since we know you love social media as much as we do, we want to make sure and stay in touch. So here’s the Insta-lowdown:
Instagram says people miss an average of 70% of the posts in their feeds. This is due to the large amount of Instagram users and all the media each person can post. To make sure users aren’t missing what’s important to them, Instagram has decided to restructure how you see posts. Posts will be ordered (for now at least) based on your relationship with the person posting, the timeliness of the post, and how active/popular that post is. The order you are currently used to is purely chronological, but this will change.
Here’s an example: If @nailsmagazine posts a cool nail art video on Instagram at 8 pm PST, you might miss it if you live on the East Coast. If you follow a lot of people, you also may not see it the next day because of all the posts that have been uploaded in between. However, the new algorithm might show you @nailsmagazine’s post from 8 pm last night first thing in the morning, even though it’s not the most recent post. The new algorithm Instagram uses will have determined you will want to see this post based on your likes and because you follow NAILS.
To make sure you don’t miss a single post from @nailsmagazine, tap the three dots in the top right corner of our profile or on one of our posts. Go down to “Turn on Post Notifications” and click select to enable the setting. A gray bar will pop up to confirm that this setting is on.

While you’re at it, make sure and do this for Facebook as well. Those instructions can be found here.
See you on social media!
