Before she ever went to nail school, Eimsuk Arminio was approached by people on the street who asked her where she got her nail art done. She replied, “I did it myself.” Arminio’s natural-born talent led her to earn a degree in commercial art.

Today, she is a successful salon owner and master nail artist, and has her own line of fine art nail decals.

At her salon, Eimsuk Arminio’s Nail Gallery in Downey, Calif., Arminio is the designated nail artist. In addition to her own clientele, the salon’s seven nail technicians keep her busy with their clients clamoring for nail art. After the nail art client-in-waiting is done with her service, she walks up to the salon’s comfortable nail art bar, which has two UV lights and two fan dryers, to dry her nails. The reshaped bar is about 8 feet by 4 feet and has four barstools for clients and one barstool for Arminio.

“The reason there is a separate area to do nail art is because filing during the service creates dust, which can get on the freshly painted nails,” says Arminio, who offers a wide array of designs, including portraits, which run $30 per nail. Floral designs, such as orchids, roses, and spring bouquets, are the most popular, she says, and she charges $7 per nail.
