“Powerful,” “magical,” and “sensual” are the words that embody CND’s fall collection, Nightspell. Amulets and power sources inspired the nails for the campaign. Nail artist Torie Bastian envisioned a pagan goddess when planning out the nail looks. NAILS caught up with the co-founder and style director of CND, Jan Arnold, to get an exclusive Q&A about the collection.

1. Why the name Nightspell?
The fashion and color trend for fall explores nocturnal darkness from a positive perspective. The Nightspell collection features moonlit colors and hypnotic effects for spell-binding beauty!

2. What was it like working with The Blonds in this capacity? How have you inspired each other over the years?
For 10 years, we have partnered with the Blonds to create runway magic. They are our artistic soul mates and are true visionaries. Plus, they are kind and loving people, who respect artistry in every form. While the trends may change each season, they remain our constant muse for each show. Phillipe and David lent their talents both behind and in front of the camera for the collection shoot. From styling the Nightspell imagery, starring their favorite model Lyoka, to being featured in the collection story themselves — their unique perspective helped bring the collection’s vision to life. We view the Blonds as fearless and dynamic trendsetters, with their open-minded approach to personal style. They both embody the confidence to be unique and celebrate those traits that make us all different.

3.   How can nail professionals captivate clients with this collection?   
The nails featured this fall are like no others we’ve created before. The colors have a depth of intriguing pigment with jewel-toned accents and metallic effects. Nail techs can experiment with tonal layering to create extraordinary nail designs that will be coveted as the only accessory required to complete the look of the season. Try the Cat Eye nail, the Velvet Veil technique, a Cocktail Nail, and even the Night Vision creation, which Phillipe himself wore at the shoot. 4. For years you have been purposeful in your plight to get designers to think of nail looks for models on the runway. Is this an “I made it” moment for you? 

I feel incredibly lucky to have made the friends we have in the fashion business…we value the love, trust and respect we receive from our designer partners! Most importantly, I am blessed beyond words to have nail professionals, trusted colleagues, education ambassadors, and brand ambassadors who play the most pivotal role in the journey. They never cease to amaze with their vision, open minded and artistic brilliance.  I am humbled every day in their magnificence and only hope that we can continue until every woman adopts the freedom of elevated nail artistry. There's so much more to do!

5. Now that you’ve gone next level with the Nightspell collection, what's your next step in this journey?

The mission is clear:

• Continued consumer adoption of the artistry and excellent services of a great nail professional.
