Cosmopolitan’s fall issue features an upgrade to the moon trend. Instead of ruby nails with a nude cuticle in the classic 1930s look, Cosmo used a silver-and-black combo with the moon at the tips.

Step 1: Apply a base coat and two coats of black polish. Let nails air-dry.

Step 2: On the top third of the nail, run a silvery white polish across the tips in a round, half-moon like shape.

Step 3: Add a second coat if black still peeks through. Seal it with a top coat.
