According to Cosmopolitan's December 2012 issue, the biggest thing to hit mani land this year is top coats and adhesives that, in minutes, make nails look like they were dipped in the Milky Way.

Especially when paired with a dark base, the shiny top becomes a versatile trend that can be worn throughout the seasons.

To achieve this look, paint on two coats of polish in a bluish cast or a darker black. Then brush a heavy layer or sparkle-packed clear polish on top. Don't worry if there's more glitter on one nail than the next -- random clusters are more galactic.

A similar shimmery galactic look is also popularizing for lipstick, eye shadow and foundation as well.
