The Fall 2013 issue of Cosmopolitan for Latinas offers some new nail art techniques, inspired by fashion re-imagined as nail art. 

1.Poppin' Color Blocking

Ad Loading...

Tools: Orange Polish, Purple Polish, Navy blue Polish, Clear Top Coat, and an Eyeliner Brush.

How to:

a. Paint nail tips orange

b. Paint from the base of the nail, near the cuticle, to the edge of the orange with the purple shade

c. Use a thin eyeliner brush dipped in the navy blue polish and create an X shape in teh middle of the nail. Then, fill in the two triangles on either side of the nail to create a three-color-blocked effect.

d. Finish with your favorite top coat to seal the design. 

*Pro-Tip: You can use tape as a border to create cleaner lines, but be sure to let your bottom layer completely dry first. 

2. Grind in Grey

Tools: MAC Nail Lacquer in Nocturnelle, MAC Nail Lacquer in Quiet Time, MAC Pigment in Frozen White, aluminum foil, eyeliner brush, Lumos High Speed Top Coat

How To:

a. Mix Nocturnelle and Quiet Time on foil to create a grey shade (ratio should be three parts Nocturnelle to one part Quiet Time).

b. Paint nails and let them dry completely. Mix Lumos top coat with MAC Frozen White pigment to create a multi-dimensional effect. 

c. Apply a coat of Lumos to seal. 

d. Dip an eyeliner brush in Nocturnelle. Go around cuticle first, then go around free edge of nail. Connect the side walls and finish off with Lumos top coat. 

*Pro-Tip: use an angled eyeliner brush dipped in nail polish remover to take off any polish that may have gotten on your cuticles.

3. Slam-Dance Studs



Tools: Red Polish, Nail Studs, Slow-Drying Top Coat

How To: 

a. Paint nails red

b. Paint half of each nail with a slow-drying top coat (you'll need sticky nails when applying the studs)

c. Dip a toothpick or dotting tool into top coat, pick up nail studs, and apply where you put the clear polish. Use seven small ones and one larger one on the free edge of the nail. 

*Pro-Tip: be sure to use embellishments with a flat back so they lie smooth on the nails.
