Instyle's April 2013 issue showed readers how to bring the glam of 1920s art deco design onto their nails. This new take on a moon manicure, created by manicurist Pattie Yankee, features two contrasting shades: one dark and one neon or metallic.

1. First prep and file the nails to the desired length. A longer, oval-shaped nail is ideal.

2. Brush on one coat of the darker hue. After it dries, cover the bottom third of each nail with French manicure strips like Orly Tip Guides. These will make the moon shape..

3. Paint the exposed area above the arch with two coats of a lighter-color polish.

4. When your nails are dry, use tweezers to peel back the strips. You can also freehand the moons with a nail-art brush dipped in polish. Be sure to clean it off afterward with non-acetone polish remover.
