Each year for more than 30 years, our sister publication, Salon Today, has honored the most beautiful salon interiors in its June issue as part of its Salon of the Year competition. To be eligible, salons must be newly opened or recently renovated. This year, we’re pleased to say that a nail salon landed in the third runner-up position overall and claimed the designation Nail Salon of the Year. Los Angeles’ Champagne Nail Lounge, opened by owner Tommy Le in 2016, houses six manicure stations, 18 pedicure thrones, and one treatment room in its 1,500 square feet.

Le commissioned Soheila Adl and Elizabeth Troitsky of AT Design to help him plan the decor, telling them he didn’t want a literal translation of champagne; instead he wanted to create a lush lounge reminiscent of the kind of place women would gather for cocktails. Still, as the designers started selecting materials and finishes, they definitely had the effervescence of champagne in mind. The bubble references are subtle and lend an air of playfulness and elegance to the design.

For example, when clients enter the salon, they are greeted by a unique reception desk constructed with glass that encases sparkling bubbles. Behind the desk is a backdrop of glass with strands of chrome spheres that emulate bubbles. Wood dividers with a reversed bubble pattern discreetly separate the space while allowing clients to see throughout. The Maya Romanoff wall covering above one wall of pedicure thrones features large circles. Finally, the glittering wall covering located at the brow bar is infused with champagne-colored glass beads.

The Michele Pelafas pedicure thrones in lavender and the upholstered manicure chairs in a deeper purple accentuate the champagne-colored decor with soothing tones. The addition of platforms under the pedicure thrones make it easier for technicians to work more comfortably and efficiently.

“We’ve already enjoyed our 15 minutes of fame,” Le says. “Champagne Nail Lounge was featured on ABC’s The Bachelor on season 21 when bachelorette Danielle Lo was interviewed at the nail lounge.”
