Celebrity manicurist Tom Bachik gives Glamour three helpful tips to keep nails looking their best.

1. 1. Wait one minute between coats. Applying thin layers and waiting in between will ultimately help the polish dry faster. Be sure to add cuticle oil on each nail to prevent dents.

2. 2. Use cuticles as a nail-shaping guide. Keep nails short and shape the nail according to the roundness of the cuticle.

3. 3. Use a toothpick for nail art. Apply a pale base color first, then use a blunt ended toothpick to add dots of vivid color. “Wait until the first layer is dry to prevent streaking,” Bachik says.
