The documentary exploring the origin of the thriving Vietnamese-American nail industry is devuting at the CAAMFest, the nation’s largest showcase for new Asian American and Asian film.

The first documentary exploring the history of the Vietnamese-American nail salon, Nailed It by director Adele Pham, will premiere May 12 at the 2018 CAAMFest, the Center for Asian American Media's film festival.

The film explores the history of the Vietnamese-American nail salon and how 20 refugee women who took part in actress Tippi Hendren's philanthropy sparked a multibillion dollar industry that would financially support many Vietnamese generations for years to come. Told through personal stories and interviews, the film is intended to capture the "unforgettable and often hilarious saga born of tragedy" involving the struggle to assimilate and grapple with stereotypes. But more importantly, the film celebrates the female entrepreneurial pioneers who succesfully built careers for themselves while simultaneously learning a new language, culture, and land, as refugees from the Vietnam War living in the United States. Their triumph forever shaped the nail industry.
