What a Turn Around

Wednesdays are supposed to be my “getting s**t done” day but lately my Wednesdays have been filled with running errands with my mom instead of running my own errands. So here I am trying to get my blog updated before I get off to bed.

Why is it so important for me to update my blog tonight? At 10 p.m. on Wednesday? I mean, the way things have been going, I could just get up tomorrow, make some coffee, let the dogs out, sit down, and get all caught up on the Internet and update my blog (along with my personal blog and my MySpace page and my website  all before going to work at 4 o’clock in the afternoon, as it’s been going.

Not tomorrow, nor Friday! I will have no other time but now as it turns out. As of Monday morning I had all of 12 clients scheduled for this entire week. But by the time I was locking up on Tuesday evening, I had 12 clients booked on Thursday alone! Whew. And Friday is also not allowing any extra wiggle room. What gives?

Holidays mostly, I guess. Suddenly I am hearing from long lost clients who had wandered off throughout the year. That’s always great. I’ve long since become accustomed to the way many of my favorite people will have their nails done for several months only to take them off and disappear for several more months. I have several clients who have been following this pattern for several years. I always hope they’ll come back and stay forever — but it’s still good to see someone again and catch up.

The really exciting thing about suddenly being booked solid — aside from the money, of course — is how many of my pending clients are people who just called me up one day and said, “I want to make an appointment with you.” Not, “Um, my friend goes to you and I was wondering how much you would charge me to ...” or “I saw you on the Internet and I really liked the nails you did and I was wondering how much it would be if I just wanted ...”

Nope. I’ve had several people call me this week and just simply state that they want to make an appointment. No questions asked.

A couple of them are referrals from my regular clients. One of them was actually referred by a client of Jena’s (the other nail tech at Attitudes). She was told that it didn’t matter who did her nails, all the girls at the salon are great! (And we are.) Two more appointments came in from girls who said they’d found me online and said to themselves, “She’s awesome! I have to get in with her.”

So no time left this week to update blogs and websites. I’ve got a good 12-hour day ahead of me tomorrow and Friday is booked solid too.

Which is good because while everyone else is whining about how expensive Christmas presents are, all I can think of is that it’s almost time to do my taxes again.
