As we near the end of 2010, you may be reflecting on your accomplishments — or maybe on some shortcomings this past year. Salon and spa owners need to stop and take a breather before the new year rushes in. Before we get into the full swing with the 2010 holiday season do yourself a favor. Think about the following items:
> Look at your financials — are you making or losing money? Is your payroll in check? Is your inventory under control and are you taking a paycheck home yourself?
> Is your marketing working for you? Do you spend unnecessary money on advertising efforts that don't pay off and do you track all campaigns for their returns?
> When it comes to recruiting and retaining staff, is your policy manual up-to-date, are your recruiting tools current and getting results, and is 2011 going to be a hiring year for you?
> Review your training procedures. Do you have staff meeting scheduled for the new year? Is your new hire training program all put together? How about a system for quarterly reviews?
You may not have the time to work on these items today but getting your game plan together now will yield higher results come January.
