I had the pleasure of talking to
Guin Deadman, owner of Shear Magic Styling Salon in Grand Junction, Colo. She has been a NAILS Magazine reader for 17 years!
She accumulated timepieces, screws, and other miniature mechanical pieces by taking apart old watches and embedded them into her acrylic edge nails. You can find more of her nail art on
her Nail Art Gallery.
Deadman’s nail art inspired me to search for the two things:
Timepieces. Last year, Amy Becker, nail technician, top competitor, and founder of
Masterworks, came out with mechanical nail art embellishments called
Time Pieces. If you don’t have old watch parts to spare, these pieces might be a more affordable option. You can watch Becker’s tutorial on sculpting
gel nails using Time Pieces on NAILStv.
Extreme Embedding. What is the craziest thing you’ve ever embedded into your acrylic or gel? Here’s a
round-up of embedded nail art from our November 2010 issue. Grass, shells, and feathers made the cut.
