Dealing with dark people can put you in a dark place, but I certainly don’t want anyone to think that’s the norm for my life or my career. I’m particularly fond of the people who seem to be convinced that I’m a terrible force of negativity and never say anything nice because I never have anything nice to say...It’s called “Maggie RANTS,” you’d think one would expect a little hyperbole.
I feel it’s only fair to give equal time to those wonderful people who brighten your day and feed your soul. The people who, when you begin to see their inner soul through the cracks in their outer facades, are filled with sweet gooey marshmallow goodness and you just want to hug them until it squishes out and then lick it all up.
That sounds terribly inappropriate.
But that’s the balance that makes it worth staying in this business, dealing with the hoards of personalities that come across my desk year after year. It keeps me in this business, and it’s why I almost always talk about loving my work and how surprised I have been at how much I like working with people...most people anyway.
In the last few months, I’ve lost two of my most marshmallowy goodness-est clients to out-of-town moves.
I am devastated at their loss. Sure, they were also good clients: reliable, punctual, and never complained about what I charge for my services. But they were also a joy to visit with.
Not merely sunny and happy. Not those people who are so bouncy and upbeat that you just want to strangle them some days. If people were light, they’d be those perfect slats of sunlight that you just want to lay down and roll around in and then stretch out and take a nap like a cat.
The world is a better place for having them in it, and my life is richer for having known them.
So if any of y’all are in the California Central Coast area (Morro Bay-ish or Rancho Cucamonga), get ahold of me, cuz they both need a new nail tech and I know you could use another amazing person to hold hands with.
