Greg Salo of Young Nails explains how he applies Young Nails’ trademark reverse application technique for acrylics.

Using reverse application really gives the nail tech an advantage with speed and creativity. The key is in understanding what size pearl to pick up. A general rule of thumb is to use a pearl that’s a little bigger than half the size of the nail bed.

Use the brush to press out the cuticle area flush to the natural nail while the excess is running toward the stress area. Then use the tip of your brush to press back the smile line into perfect shape. By using custom glitter and colored powder combinations, the possibilities are unlimited.

Prep the nail, apply a form and apply an acrylic ball that is slightly bigger than half the size of the nail bed.

Use a pincher to hold the form in place and round out your C-curve. Also make sure that your smile line is crisp. Remove form and file the nail to smooth out imperfections.  Finished nail.
