Somer Downes, LCN’s director of education, gives some helpful advice on creating the perfect smile lines for your pink-and-white gels.

Everyone wants to create the perfect pink-and-whites, but how do you get that perfect smile line? The key is to apply the pink or pastel-colored building product to the nail bed first, and then swipe the free edge clean of any building product and cure. This will create a small wall for the white to sit against.

Now apply the white of your choice to the free edge, bringing it right up to the pink, and cure. Then apply a layer of clear gel over the top of the entire nail. This layer needs to be clear so you don’t cover up your white, and this step creates a great base from which to file so you won’t accidentally file off your white.

Once that’s cured, you can file the nail into your desired shape and seal it with the sealant of your choice. To add some fun to your French manicures, try a sealant with a hint of shimmer or some glitter instead of plain white for the free edge. And feel free to change it up all the time because gels are so easy to file off.
