We sometimes counsel nail techs not to get too involved with their clients. Good thing Cindy Iverson, a manicurist since 1988, didn’t take our advice. Together with longtime client-turned-friend-turned-sister-in-law Sandy DuPaix, Iverson has launched a new online scheduling system called Schedule My Beauty. NAILS asked her to tell us about the system and its origins.

What motivated you to create Schedule My Beauty?

Iverson: I was exhausted answering the phone and trying to schedule appointments while I was working with clients. Trying to schedule those every-two week appointments through the entire year was always a chore. Inevitably, I would find a client in another client’s spot. So we came up with the frequency scheduling button. One click of a button and the client is scheduled throughout the tech’s book every two weeks at the same time for up to five years.

How did Sandy get involved?

Iverson: As a client, she was tired of trying to contact her hairstylist and manicurist by phone to schedule appointments. She was a college student and a working mother and she would never remember to schedule her beauty appointments until late at night when it was too late.

What are some other advantages for the tech?

Iverson: You can check your schedule from any location. There is a history log for techs to input information about clients, such as color used or any other personal info she may need. There is also a revenue totaling button for the end of the day.

How does the system work for clients?

Iverson: Clients can book appointments at any time of day or night. And they can always locate their tech even if she moves, which is great if a salon owner is reluctant to give out a tech’s new location. If a consumer is looking for someone new, she can also search for a salon by zip code, or for an individual tech. She can then click on the tech’s name and see a photo, the address, phone number, specialties, bio, and services offered.

How much does the service cost?

Iverson: It’s free for clients. Techs are charged $20 per month and salons pay $50 per month and $20 per tech. There are no sign up fees and we give the techs 30 days free to get their clients moved online and begin their online scheduling.
