The winner of NAILS’ 2006 Self Portrait Contest, Vu Nguyen, used a dark-to-light shading technique to bring his portrait to life. Nguyen, a nail tech at Provence Salon & Boutique in Bonsall, Calif., says that as a former art student, he’s painted portraits before. “But this is first time I’ve painted myself,” he says. It took him just 45 minutes to complete his winning entry. Congratulations also to second-place winner Kerri Holleman of Simplicity Salon in N. Andover, Mass., and third-place winner Stacy

Senecal of Libelle in Geneva, N.Y.
