Her Focus Is Feet

byNAILS Staff | May 1, 2000

More than just a pedicurist, not quite a podiatrist, Toronoto’s Katherin von Gavel straddles both worlds as a chiropodist. “A chiropodist is a foot specialist trained to treat skin and nail disorders such as corns, calluses, ingrown toenails, etc., but does not have a medical degree,” explains von Gavel. Until recently there was no training in chiropody available in North America, says von Gavel, who was trained in Europe, though now was trained in Europe, though now a three-year program is offered in Canada. After 24 years running her clinic specializing in European foot care, she now responds to the increasing demand for foot care training by teaching a dozen or more classes a year across North American. “A nail tech who is willing to devote time to acquire the proper education and promote good foot health will have happy clients and a very successful business,” she says. To find out about classes in your area, call (416) 747-6757 or e-mail
