Who’s that woman roller-blading with lightning speed, sending her opponents into the dust? It’s the nail industry’s own Denise Loden (daughter of founder Peggy Loden), vice president of Safari Airbrush and currently captain of the Florida Sundogs, one of the teams you can watch compete on TNN’s new series “Power Jam.” “It’s just like the old ‘Roller Derby.’ Only even more physical because the inline skates we use today are a lot faster. We’re hitting at higher speeds.” Loden started speed-skating at age 9, and though she’s a licensed nail technician who helped design stencils and formulates paints for Safari, skating remains her first love. Loden channels her competitive energies into both careers, and was even a contestant on “American Gladiators.” “You never know where a competitive streak will take you,” she says. How does she keep her nails nice in the rough-and-tumble world of competitive skating? “I wear my nails short and keep a repair kit close by. I plan to airbrush my nails with the team colors,” she says.
