In his first bid for Congress, Tweezerman’s president Dal LaMagna failed to win the seat for the 3rd  district in Long Island, N.Y., although he won 42% of the votes cast, which came to 95,000 votes in his favor, he told NAILS. “It was a loss for the entire beauty industry; it lost a seat in Congress,” LaMagna says. He plans to run again in 1998, but will continue to work on behalf of the beauty industry, specifically to establish or strengthen licensing standards for nail technicians nationally. “I can’t do it as a member of Congress now, so I’ll work on it through other means,” says LaMagna.
