Outside the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in New York City, yellow cabs screeched and honked. But inside, birds sang and even a squirrel or two could be seen as OPI announced its new fall polish colors, called the Rocky Mountain Nail Lacquer Collection. Editors from magazines such as Vogue, New Woman, Glamour, Mademoiselle, Self, and Harper’s Bazaar gathered in an elegant room decorated with rustic baskets and alive with recorded bird sounds. After they listened to Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, executive vice president and artistic director of OPI, explain how the company came up with its deep, rich new colors, as well as their creative names (how does Pikes Peak-A-Boo Purple grab you?), attendees dined on Chilled Wild Prairie Asparagus with Mile-High Vinaigrette, Prince George Potatoes, Pueblo Plum Tart, and other delicacies. “We were inspired by colors from the earth,” Weiss-Fischmann explained to the editors and nail educators present. “They are naturally appealing to all of us.” The collection consists of 12 new shades, three of which are Suzi’s Picks for the season. Models dressed as prospectors, mountain climbers, deer, and squirrels pranced around the tables showing off each new nail color. Afterward, editors were encouraged to stay for manicures provided by OPI educators.
