This issue marks the beginning of NAILS’ tenth year as the leading trade journal for nail technicians. We face this new decade awed by the growth of this exciting industry, inspired by the increasing sophistication of nail care professionals, and challenged to continue business information to help you cultivate a successful business.

Although 1991 was a year of great economic challenge—in the publishing industry as well as in the nail industry—we face our second decade the only way good business people can when challenged: We’ve improved.

As you’ve already noticed, we’ve changed the look of the magazine to make it easier to read and we’ve organized it to be easier to use. Our outstanding graphics team, art director Lynn La Londe and graphic artists Steve Fisher and Cay Martinez, oversaw the redesign and spent many an evening and weekend ironing out the kinks. I think you’ll agree with me that the final product is better than ever.

We’ve added new sections. I am particularly excited about “The NAILS File” which is where we will keep watch on consumer trends and salon industry news, and we’ll keep a guard out for bad press on nails and provide you with information to set the record straight.

In “Products Demos,” we’ve asked manufacturers to tell how their products work, just as if they were standing before you doing a demonstration. Every month, this department will provide up-to-date technical information on all the latest new products.

The NAILS editorial staff—Suzette Hill, Jennifer Sakurai, and Annie Gorton—is looking forward to our best year yet and a prosperous new decade for the entire industry.
