Canadian nail technicians now have an organization of their own, dedicated to the betterment of the nail industry in Canada. Known as SENTEC — Society for Excellence of Nail Technicians and Education Continuation — the society is now establishing itself throughout Western Canada.

As a registered society, SENTEC sponsors conventions, shows and competitions. In addition, educational seminars are held to keep members up to date on the industry, techniques and trends.

The society also handles any complaints, commendations or inquiries the public may have about a Canadian nail technician.

In addition to bylaws and a code of ethics, SENTEC also has a policy whereby members are expected to maintain the highest standard of sterilization and sanitation for the protection of the health and welfare of the public.

President of SENTEC is Dulcy Loera, a nail technician who received her license in California and worked there for more than 10 years. Dulcy has been in Canada for two years and currently owns two salons, a nail school and a nail supply house. The society, however, is independent and non-profit. “We are not a school, nor do we sell a product,” Dulcy explained. “But we do have great event coming soon!”
