A Marriage Made in… a Salon?

When the nail tech was buffing her boyfriend’s nails, she said ‘Let me learn how to buff them’ and then she got down on one knee to propose.

Romance is probably the farthest thing from your mind as you sit at a client’s feet, nail buffer in hand. But recently at NiteSpa, a trendy full-service salon in a Venice, Calif., the situation inspired a proposal of marriage.

As NiteSpa owner Julia Martin tells it, a spa client, Shawn Simons, had come in earlier that day to let her in on her plan to propose to her boyfriend that evening at the salon (NiteSpa is open until midnight). He had hurt his toe surfing and she had promised him a restorative mani/pedi after a special dinner celebrating their seven years together as a couple.

Explains Martin: “When the nail tech was buffing her boyfriend’s nails, she said ‘Let me learn how to buff them,’ so she got down on one knee and took his left hand. Then she said, ‘Well, as long as I’m here…’ and started talking about how much she loved him. When she was done, she popped the question, complete with a custom-designed ring .” The answer, we’re happy to report, was yes.
